 Susan
Lesyk has been the director of ALS since 1990. She had planned
to continue teaching high school English when she entered a graduate
program at the University of Oregon in 1974. Instead, she joined
the UO's Learning Resources Center and began teaching writing, critical
thinking, reading, and study techniques at the college level. Susan
has guided ALS during a period of unprecedented growth in the services
and resources designed to improve teaching and learning at the UO.
Although coordinating this expansion has been extremely rewarding,
sharing in the academic and professional achievements of individual
students and faculty members continues to be the most fulfilling
aspect of her work. Outside the office, Susan enjoys reading novels,
dabbling in the arts, and traveling with her husband and teenage
daughter.
