Jon Erlandson is an archeologist, Professor of Anthropology, and Knight Professor
of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He received his Ph.D. in 1988 from the University
of California, Santa Barbara and has been a member of the UO faculty since 1990.
Professor Erlandson specializes in the study of maritime societies, human adaptations
to coastal environments, and the archaeology of western North America. Also,
he works with Native American tribes to preserve and protect archaeological
sites. As part of his work, he has written or edited eight books and written
almost 100 scholarly articles.
