Jean Stockard is a Professor in the Department of Planning, Public Policy,
and Management. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Oregon
in 1974 and has been on the university faculty since that time. Her current
research projects span areas related to children and youth, public health, and
education and includes analyses of trends in youth suicide and homicide, issues
related to variations in the quality of health care, the relationship of environmental
characteristics to morbidity, and policies regarding educational financing and
achievement. She is the author of 7 books and a number of articles, most recently
in Social Forces, the American Sociological Review, and Health Affairs.
