Michael Dreiling received a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Michigan.
He is a professor of Sociology at the University of Oregon and an active father
of two children. His academic research on the political conflicts during the
NAFTA negotiations was published as a book titled Solidarity and Contention:
The Politics of Class and Sustainability in the NAFTA Conflict. Since
1997, he has published nine research articles as well. He is currently writing
a book examining the role of corporations in the making of U.S. trade policy
at the turn of the millennium. Over the last several years, Professor Dreiling
studied nonviolence and Nonviolent Communication, publishing an article about
the use of nonviolence in the college classroom, and is at the early stages
of a project on “Globalizing Nonviolence.” At the University of
Oregon, he teaches courses on nonviolence, work and labor, social movements,
and American society.
