Marian Friestad

Marian Friestad, Associate Dean of the Graduate School, joined the University
of Oregon faculty in 1987. She was the Director of the Doctoral Program in the
Lundquist College of Business in 1997-1998. Professor Friestad served as the
interim Dean of the Graduate School from 1998-2000, after which she returned
to her position as an Associate Professor in the Marketing Department, where
she has taught at the undergraduate, masters and doctoral levels. Professor
Friestad’s research interests include consumers’ responses to advertising,
the effects of emotion on memory, and adolescents’ and adults’ understanding
of persuasion. She is the former President of the Society for Consumer Psychology
and has served as the President of the Board of Directors for the United Way
of Lane County. Professor Friestad returned to the Graduate School in the spring
of 2002, where she now works to enhance the recruitment and retention of graduate
students at the University of Oregon.
