Professor Jennifer Freyd received her PhD in psychology from Stanford University in 1983. She joined the UO Psychology
Department in 1987 and now directs an active laboratory investigating the psychology of trauma with a focus on memory and
awareness for trauma, and on the physical and mental health consequences of betrayal trauma. The recipient of awards
from the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Mental Health as well as a Guggenheim Fellowship,
she is currently a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Society, and the
American Association for the Advancement of Science. Her influential book, Betrayal Trauma: The Logic of Forgetting
Childhood Abuse (Harvard Press, 1996) has now been published in paperback and Spanish language editions. She is also
the co-editor of Trauma & Cognitive Science (Haworth Press, 2001).
