Isaac Torres, McNair Scholar

Cai Emmons, a novelist and a teacher of writing, graduated from Yale University (B.A.), New York University (M.F.A.), and the University of Oregon (M.F.A.). Her first novel, His Mother’s Son, was published by Harcourt in 2003 (paperback, 2004). It was translated into French and German; was a Booksense, Literary Guild, and Doubleday Book Club selection; and won the 2003 Ken Kesey Award for the Novel (an Oregon Book Award). Cai’s recent publications include a story (“The Deed”) in Arts and Letters Journal of Contemporary Culture, a selection in the forthcoming book Write Now: Writing Exercises From Today’s Best Teachers and Writers (Tarcher Publications), and a novel excerpt in the upcoming issue of Narrative Magazine. Her newest novel, The Stylist, will be published by HarperCollins in January 2007.
