Tania Triana joined the Spanish faculty in the Department of Romance
Languages in 2004 after receiving her Ph.D. from the University
of California at San Diego. Her dissertation, “Cana Quema:
Narrating Race, Gender, and Nation(s) in Cuba,” highlights
her continuing research interests in Caribbean studies, race theory,
and gender and African diaspora studies. She has several studies
in progress: “Rewriting the Legacy of Cecilia Valdés
in Republican Cuba;” Black and Beyond: Narratives of Reracialization
in the Americas; and “Guillén and Rap Cubano in
the Special Period.”
