Assistant Professor Beata Stawarska received her Ph.D. from the University of Louvain in 2000 and joined the UO Department of Philosophy in 2003. Drawing from phenomenology, linguistics, and developmental psychology, she has taught courses focused on philosophical psychology, phenomenology, and the works of Merleau-Ponty. Her publications include “Mutual Gaze and Social Cognition,” Journal of Phenomenology and the Cognitive Sciences (2006); “Philosopher and Dispassionate Scientist,” Dialogue and Universalism (2005); “Merleau-Ponty in Dialogue with the Cognitive Sciences in Light of Recent Imitation Research,” Philosophy Today (2004). Currently, Prof. Stawarska is working on a book manuscript with the working title of The Dialogue and the Self.
