Professor Geraldine Moreno-Black received her Ph.D. from the University of Florida in 1974 and joined the UO Department of Anthropology the same year. A specialist in biocultural and nutritional anthropology as well as human ecology, she has studied the relationship of gender, cultural transformation, and food habits among the people of northeastern Thailand. Also, she has collaborated with Carla Guerron-Montero studying female-headed households and dual male-headed households in Ecuador. Prof. Moreno-Black’s recent publications include “At the Factory, at the Table: Dietary Beliefs and Practices of Thai Industrial Workers,” with P. Homchampa, Ecology of Food and Nutrition (2007); “The Lao, Gender, Power, and Livelihood,” with C. Ireson-Doolittle, Westview Press (2006); and “Young Women's Experiences of Menstruation and Athletics,” with H. Vallianatos, Women's Studies Quarterly (2005).
